Clinically referred to as augmentation mammaplasty, breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure performed to create fuller breasts, to restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy, or to reconstruct a breast that has been lost due to mastectomy or injury. If you would like to learn more about breast augmentation, please contact Missoula surgeon Stephen Hardy of Northwest Plastic Surgery Associates.
Breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure performed to create fuller breasts or to restore the volume of the breasts. In this clip, Missoula surgeon Dr. Hardy explains about the procedure, where to place the incisions, the difference between silicone and saline, and what to expect during the procedure, and the recovery time.
Breast augmentation is a procedure to enlarge and enhance the shape of or improve the symmetry of the breasts through the surgical placement of implants. Breast augmentation does not correct sagging breasts. A breast lift may be performed in conjunction with breast augmentation to address this issue. Breast augmentation is a highly individualized procedure that is recommended for healthy women who do not smoke or have medical conditions that could impair healing. It's also important that breast augmentation candidates have a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for improving their body image.
A breast augmentation consultation with Dr. Hardy will include:
Breast implants are shells made of silicone rubber filled with silicone gel that are surgically implanted under breast tissue or chest muscle in breast augmentations and reconstructions. Throughout the 40 years that cosmetic breast augmentation with silicone implants has been an accepted surgical procedure in the United States, it has been found to be safe and effective and has consistently improved the quality of patients' lives. Silicone implants have not, however, been without controversy and we advise you to consult with Dr. Hardy about their use in your case.
