Valuable Breast Lift Information from Dr. Hardy

Breast Lift - Missoula, Butte, Helena, Montana

At Northwest Plastic Surgery Associates, Dr. Stephen P. Hardy and our staff understand that choosing to have a breast lift at our Missoula practice is a big decision. Because of this, we are pleased to offer whatever information you need in evaluating whether a breast lift is right for you. Please read through the information on our website, and if you would like to schedule a consultation to discuss the procedure in greater detail, please contact our practice today by filling out the form on this page.

Why Have a Breast Lift?

A breast lift raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to support the new breast contour. It is used to address the changes in women's breasts that occur as a result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, heredity, aging, and gravity. Some examples of these changes include breasts that:

  • Sag or are pendulous, but are proportionate with the body frame
  • Have lost firmness or skin elasticity
  • Have flatter, elongated shapes
  • Have nipples and areolas (the pigmented skin around the nipple) that point downward
  • Have stretched skin and enlarged areolas

The Breast Lift Procedure

A breast lift is potentially ideal for women who wish to improve the shape and position of their breasts and achieve a more youthful, uplifted and firm breast profile. For the breast lift procedure in Missoula, general anesthesia is used to sedate the patient, and then the procedure can begin. In any breast lift procedure, an incision is made to remove skin, and the skin and nipple are repositioned to create the desired lift. When an increase in volume is also desired, breast augmentation may be performed in conjunction with this procedure.

The best candidates for a breast lift will be in generally good health, without medical conditions that could impair healing. Good candidates also include nonsmokers who have a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for improving body image.
