Cheek Enhancement with Dermal Fillers and Implants By Stephen Hardy M.D. on January 08, 2013

Missoula Cheek AugmentationMost of us find the appearance of strong, prominent cheek bones an attractive quality. Unfortunately, not all of us are born with those high and defined cheek bones. Still others may have once had full cheeks but have noticed the cheeks have begun to sink in as the aging process has progressed. This lack of definition can give the face a tired, gaunt appearance. When patients come to Dr. Stephen P. Hardy’s Missoula plastic surgery practice complaining of the shape of their cheeks, he offers surgical and non-surgical treatments to address this problem.

Dermal Fillers

Dr. Hardy can provide his Missoula patients with cheek augmentation in two ways. The first option is non-surgical. Through the use of dermal fillers, Dr. Hardy can smooth and plump the cheek bones to give patients the volume and fullness they desire. With some of the impressive dermal fillers that are available today, our patients can achieve results that last for up to a year. Many of our patients find that they are able to obtain the appearance they desire without the need for invasive surgical procedures. For others who wish for more permanent results, dermal fillers can be a good way to test out the appearance of fuller cheeks and make sure they are happy with the results before committing to surgical treatment.

Cheek Implants

If patients do decide to seek surgical treatment, Dr. Hardy can place cheek implants to sculpt the patient’s cheeks to their ideal size and shape. There are many sizes and shapes of cheek implants available so Dr. Hardy can choose an implant that most closely meets your aesthetic goals while complementing the natural shape of your face. Cheek implants can either be placed by creating a well-fitted pocket or by attaching the implant to facial tissue or bone. When cheek augmentation surgery is performed on its own, Dr. Hardy will typically make a small incision at the gum line in the mouth. If a patient desires any other facial plastic surgery, Dr. Hardy will recommend that the procedures are performed together. For our patients in Missoula, facelift surgery and eyelid surgery are two of the procedures that can be performed along with cheek augmentation. When these plastic surgeries are being performed, Dr. Hardy will use the incisions from those surgeries to gain access to the cheeks and place the cheek implants.

Benefits of Cheek Augmentation

Whether you choose to sculpt your cheeks using dermal fillers or cheek implants, you can expect the benefit of fuller, more prominent cheeks. Many patients are pleasantly surprised to see that by filling out the cheeks, they are left with a face that appears more refreshed and youthful.
