How a Staged Mommy Makeover Can Protect Your Health and Safely Rejuvenate Your Figure

Pregnancy often causes irreversible changes to the body. Skin that has been stretched, especially on the belly and breasts, can slacken and sag. Abdominal muscles can weaken and separate, and accumulated fat may stubbornly persist. Diet and exercise are often not enough to overcome these physical alterations. If you share these concerns, a mommy makeover by Missoula plastic surgeon Stephen P. Hardy, M.D. can get you back into pre-baby shape. This customized combination of procedures specifically addresses the areas of a woman’s body most affected by pregnancy and childbirth, and typically includes body contouring and breast enhancement. Dr. Hardy believes in helping patients achieve optimal aesthetic results, but he also puts safety first. For this reason, he performs mommy makeovers in stages to avoid the risks to patient health that can result from combining multiple surgeries in a single session. Planning Your Makeover

A mommy makeover is a totally personalized treatment plan. First, Dr. Hardy will determine your candidacy. Health conditions that make elective surgery risky or could cause complications with anesthesia need to be ruled out. Ideal candidates should not be planning on having more children, as it could reverse the effects of treatment, and they should be near their ideal weight. Candidates also need to have realistic expectations and a thorough understanding of the time it will take to accomplish their aesthetic goals. Although many surgeons will include breast surgery and tummy tuck in one operation, Dr. Hardy feels that combining procedures creates an unnecessary risk of complications. Surgeries will be performed one at a time, with an appropriate recovery period in between.

Treatment Components

If Dr. Hardy determines that you are a good candidate for a mommy makeover, he will conduct a complete physical exam to assess your condition and concerns. Together, you will carefully select the right combination of procedures while taking into account your physical needs, lifestyle, budget, and other factors. Dr. Hardy will always treat you with respect and take the time to answer all of your questions. Mommy makeover treatment typically includes:

  • Tummy Tuck – Clinically called abdominoplasty, tummy tuck slims and firms the midsection by removing excess fat, skin and tissue, and tightening the abdominal muscles, if necessary.
  • Breast Enhancement – This is a highly individualized component that could include breast reduction, breast lift with or without implants, or breast augmentation.
  • Liposuction – By removing localized pockets of fat with a suction device, Dr. Hardy can target post-pregnancy problem areas like the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, and upper arms.

For even more comprehensive results, lasers and other nonsurgical treatments can be an important aspect of your makeover by reducing stretch marks, spider veins, and cellulite.

While a mommy makeover cannot completely erase the physical effects of pregnancy and nursing, it can give you a firmer, more toned, and more youthful-looking body. These aesthetic benefits typically lead to improved self-confidence and enhanced quality of life. You may also experience improved comfort if excess skin or hanging breasts were causing physical discomfort.
