Enhance Your Figure with Breast Implants
Breast implants are used to enlarge small breasts, create symmetry between the breasts, and achieve an overall more balanced, proportionate figure. Implants vary in size, shape, and materials, and your choice of implant will significantly impact your satisfaction in your surgical results. Our plastic surgeons, Dr. Stephen P. Hardy, has years of experience performing breast augmentation procedures and will work closely with you to develop an individualized treatment plan that can help you look and feel your best. You can learn more about breast implants during a consultation at our Polson practice. Reach out to us today to schedule your initial appointment.

Breast Implants: An Overview
Breast implants consist of a silicone shell filled with either a saline solution or silicone gel. A third type of implant, commonly known as a gummy bear implant, is also filled with silicone, but uses a thicker, more cohesive gel that can hold its shape better than traditional silicone implants.
Saline implants can be filled after insertion, and require just a small incision. Silicone implants are pre-filled and require a larger incision. Both types of implants can be placed under or over the pectoral muscle, and are typically placed through an incision in the armpit, beneath the crease of the breast, or around the nipple. Although slightly larger scars may result from the placement of silicone implants, our doctors use advanced surgical techniques that minimize and conceal the appearance of any scarring.
Choosing Your Implants
During a consultation, your doctor will first discuss your goals with you. Common factors that will help determine which implant is right for you include:
- Shape: Implants are available in round and teardrop shapes. Teardrop implants are also called anatomically shaped implants because they mimic the shape of a natural breast. They are often used during breast reconstruction surgery. Some women choose round implants because if the implant shifts, it will not alter the shape of the breast.
- Cost: Saline implants typically cost less than silicone implants.
- Revision Surgery Considerations: Because saline is naturally found in the body, the solution inside a leaking or ruptured saline implant will simply be absorbed by the body. However, with proper monitoring, silicone leaks typically do not pose a substantial risk to a patient's health. Replacing a ruptured silicone implant can be more difficult than replacing a saline implant.
- Size: Both saline and silicone implants are available in a variety of sizes to help meet a range of goals. Whether you desire a moderate enhancement, or a voluptuous new bust, we can provide an implant to help you achieve the appearance you envision.
