Rejuvenate Your Figure with a Breast Lift

As we age, our skin naturally loses elasticity. Patients can eliminate sagging breasts and recapture their youthful silhouette with a breast lift at our Polson, MT, practice. In contrast to breast reduction and breast augmentation, a breast lift does not change the size of the breast. Instead, it simply shifts them upwards to undo the effects of sagging.

Dr. Stephen P. Hardy is a board certified plastic surgeon with over 15 years of experience in designing personalized cosmetic treatment plans. When you choose Northwest Plastic Surgery Associates, you can rest assured you will be receiving the highest quality of care possible.

Benefits of a Breast Lift

In many cases, a breast lift can offer both physical and aesthetic benefits. Physically, patients often find that a lift reduces tension and discomfort in their back and neck.

Equally important as the physical benefits are the cosmetic benefits. When you look and feel your best, it shows. Many of our patients report feeling much more self-assured after their cosmetic procedure.

Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

A mastopexy, also known as a breast lift, is an ideal procedure for women who want to improve the shape and position of their breasts and achieve a more youthful, uplifted breast. At his Missoula office, Dr. Hardy performs a breast lift to address the change in women’s breasts as a result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, aging, and gravity.

Am I a Candidate?

Aging, pregnancy, and weight loss can all contribute to sagging. All are valid reasons to pursue treatment. However, in order to qualify for the procedure, patients must be:

  • Over the age of 18
  • In good general health
  • Not planning on becoming pregnant
  • At a stable weight

The best way to be sure that a breast lift is appropriate for you is to schedule a visit with a trusted plastic surgeon. They can help you determine if this procedure is an effective method for achieving your goals.

The Breast Lift Treatment Process

Knowing what to expect during treatment can go a long way to helping you feel comfortable. Our team will walk with you every step of the journey, from your initial consultation to your final check-up.

Your First Consultation

During your pre-operative consultation with Dr. Hardy, he will perform a comprehensive evaluation to see how much of a lift is required to achieve your desired results. He will also review your health history to identify any potential risks that could undermine treatment. Consequently, it is important to bring along a complete list of allergies, medications, and herbal supplements.

Finally, Dr. Hardy will ask about your specific aesthetic concerns and expectations for the procedure. After he has collected all of the necessary information, he can design a treatment plan personalized to your goals.

Preparing for Your Procedure

During your treatment planning consultation, Dr. Hardy will provide you with a comprehensive list of pre-surgical instructions, including recommendations to:

  • Discontinue certain vitamins and supplements a few days prior to the procedure
  • Stop smoking
  • Stop consuming alcohol two weeks before surgery
  • Discontinue NSAIDS for a week after the procedure

It is essential that you follow these instructions as closely as possible to ensure a successful procedure and safe recovery.

The Breast Lift Procedure

In total, the breast lift procedure can take anywhere from one and a half to three or more hours, depending on the patient. The day of your procedure, you will receive either general anesthesia or IV sedation so that you can remain comfortable throughout. Once you are comfortable, the doctor will create incisions in strategic locations to minimize scarring.

Aging, pregnancy, and weight loss can all contribute to sagging.

Next, excess tissue is excised and the underlying breast tissue reshaped for a natural-looking, perkier appearance. If necessary, Dr. Hardy can reposition the nipples, as well. Finally, he can close the incisions with either absorbable or non-absorbable sutures.

Discomfort or tenderness is normal following a breast lift procedure. Patients should plan to take at least one week off of work for a speedy and successful recovery. If your stitches require removal, your surgeon will let you know when to schedule that appointment.
