At Northwest Plastic Surgery Associates, PLLC, we are proud to offer advanced skin rejuvenating treatments using the Sciton® laser. The latest advancement in these therapies is skin resurfacing with the MicroLaserPeel®, which simultaneously removes the dead and thin layers of the epidermis and blends irregularly pigmented skin such as age spots. Because many of us lead active lifestyles but want to experience improvement in skin texture, color, and tone, this state-of-the-art laser treatment has been designed and developed to address these needs with minimal downtime. If you would like to learn more about MicroLaserPeel®, contact our Missoula plastic surgery practice today.
The MicroLaserPeel® can be used in combination with other laser technologies and treatments offered at our practice. The most commonly treated areas are the face, neck, and hands; immediate improvement in skin texture and tightness can be seen, with increasing improvement over a period of six months from the time of treatment, because collagen stimulation is increased in the deep layers of the skin over time.
During treatment, the laser resurfacing device will precisely target the outermost layers of the skin to remove these layers at a pre-determined depth. Each patient can have the procedure customized for their particular needs and their specific skin conditions. Correction can be seen with fine lines, wrinkles, irregular or uneven pigmentation, excessive sun damage, and acne scarring.
At our Missoula practice, the MicroLaserPeel® offers much less post-treatment redness and swelling compared to other skin resurfacing methods, which leads to a more rapid healing process. Depending on the depth of the peel, this healing process generally lasts from two to five days. The treated area will begin by resembling varying degrees of sunburn for up to three days, but can easily be controlled with non-prescription medication, and sunblock should be used when in the sun. Once the healing has occurred, patients experience smoother, healthier, more vibrant skin with an immediate improvement.
Laura Conway, RN, CPSN, will recommend and review with Dr. Stephen Hardy the number of treatments needed for you to achieve your desired goals; this will depend greatly on your current skin condition. Treatments are generally scheduled four to six weeks apart for the duration of the treatment suggested. A topical anesthetic will be applied 30 – 45 minutes prior to your treatment, and an oral sedation may be given for deeper peels.
One of the most exciting features of the Sciton® laser system is that it allows for our knowledgeable staff to create and program a treatment plan specific to each of our patients. Reduced downtime is an advancement more exciting that the individualized treatment, to many patients. Compared to traditional CO2 laser treatments, MicroLaserPeel® patients heal in a fraction of the time. The MicroLaserPeel® produces minimal tissue damage, and this means less oozing, sloughing, and swelling in the post-treatment phase.
