Woman before and after otoplasty

Ears that protrude or have a disproportionate size or shape can cause intense feelings of self-consciousness.

Otoplasty can permanently change the shape, size, and position of your ears.

Why should I consider otoplasty?

Improved Appearance and Confidence

Refined Dimensions

Otoplasty can reduce the size of overly large ears or reposition protruding ears for improved harmony with your other features.

Less Unwanted Attention

Young children are often prone to unwanted attention due to large or protruding ears. Otoplasty can make your ears less conspicuous.

Boosted Self-Esteem

The results of otoplasty can help you feel liberated from feelings of self-consciousness and dissatisfaction with your appearance.

Have Realistic Expectations

Otoplasty cannot make you look like a different person or automatically prevent others from mistreating you due to your appearance. It can boost your confidence, enhance your appearance, and discourage unwanted attention.

From Preparation to Recovery

An outpatient procedure, cosmetic ear surgery takes about one hour per ear.

Patients can usually go back to school or work inside of a week. Total recovery takes about six weeks.

Technicians will tape your hair back and apply an antibacterial solution to the skin of the treatment area before you receive anesthesia.

Your surgeon will place an incision in the back of the ear (or the front of the ear, depending on the refinements being made).

Refining the Cartilage

Your surgeon will trim and reshape the cartilage to achieve the desired effects.

Closing the Incicisons

Your surgeon will close the incisions with sutures in a way that will result in minimal scarring. Finally, he or she will place form-fitting bandages over each ear to help them retain their new shape and position as you heal.

Bandages typically come off after about three days and are replaced with a special headband. Strenuous activity must be avoided for about a week. Patients can usually go back to school or work inside of a week. Total recovery takes about six weeks.
