Dr. Hardy on Facial Cosmetic Surgery

In this video, Dr. Hardy discusses his approach to facelifts and other facial procedures. He wants his patients to look natural and refreshed, not like they've "had work done." Skip to 2:33 to hear Dr. Hardy discuss eyelid surgery specifically.

The Benefits of Eyelid Surgery

Improved Self-Confidence

Blepharoplasty can target many of the common signs of aging to provide a significant enhancement in your appearance and your self-esteem.

Larger Field of Vision

Drooping upper eyelids can interfere with your vision. Dr. Hardy can use blepharoplasty to lift away excess skin and tighten the upper eyelids, allowing you to see more clearly.

Versatile Results

We offer a range of facial cosmetic surgery procedures at our practice serving the Polson, MT, area. If appropriate, Dr. Hardy can combine your eyelid surgery with another cosmetic procedure, such as a facelift or brow lift, to provide more dramatic results.

What to Expect During Blepharoplasty

Dr. Hardy performs eyelid surgery as an outpatient procedure at our offices in Helena and Polson, MT.

Anesthesia

Dr. Hardy prefers to perform blepharoplasty with a combination of local anesthesia and oral sedation. Compared to general anesthesia, Dr. Hardy's approach has a lower risk of complications.

Incisions

Dr. Hardy will begin the surgery by carefully making incisions on the eyelids. He artfully places the incisions so that the resulting scar is practically invisible. Incisions on the lower eyelid are made either immediately below the eyelashes or on the inside of the eyelid, while incisions on the upper eyelid are made in the crease of the eyelid.

Alterations

After making the incisions, Dr. Hardy will carefully address the sagging or puffiness in your eyelids by removing excess skin and fatty tissue. He may also tighten underlying muscles. Finally, he will close the incisions.

What to Expect After Eyelid Surgery

Recovery

Recovery from blepharoplasty is typically quick and involves only minimal discomfort. During the first few days, you may experience some minor irritation, sensitivity, or visual changes, such as blurred or double vision.

Following Dr. Hardy's aftercare instructions will do much to expedite your healing time and reduce discomfort. Most patients will take about a week away from work, although swelling and bruising may be noticeable for a short period of time thereafter.

Results

As the initial swelling and bruising begin to subside a few days after your surgery, you will notice the results of your procedure. Lifted upper eyelids will reveal improved contours from lid to brow. Patients with previously blocked vision should have a restored field of sight. The appearance of bags or drooping under the eyes will be remarkably less noticeable.

Patients should keep in mind that blepharoplasty is designed to treat the eyelids. Anatomically adjacent areas, such as the brow or cheeks, will not be affected.

A Natural, Refreshed Look Results Like These Can Be Yours

Our team knows it can be hard to envision the final results of your cosmetic treatment if you don't have anyone else's results to reference. In our photo gallery, you can see what we were able to accomplish for this Missoula-area blepharoplasty patient and others.

Are There Any Risks?

Any surgical procedure carries some degree of risk, but we want our Missoula-area patients to know that blepharoplasty is a safe and effective cosmetic option, especially when performed by a board-certified surgeon who uses conservative techniques and thoroughly vetted surgical tools and technologies. You'll find all of that in Dr. Hardy's cosmetic practice.

As for side effects, a small number of patients report dry eyes, and in rare circumstances, the procedure can make dry eyes worse for patients who already have the condition. The risk of developing dry eye or the condition worsening after blepharoplasty is minimal when you work with a proven cosmetic specialist like Dr. Hardy. His treatments are performed according to high standards that maximize safety in all aspects.

Combining Treatments For Even More Profound Results

Northwest Plastic Surgery Associates offers treatments to beautify or enhance all aspects of the face, many of which can easily be combined to bring a patient even closer to their ideal look. These are two of the most popular procedures to combine with eyelid surgery:

Facelift

Intended to improve the appearance of the mid to lower face, a facelift with Dr. Hardy can turn back the clock on wrinkles, fine lines, loose skin, jowls, and more. During this surgery, he lifts away excess facial skin and fat before gently tightening the underlying musculature, reversing common signs of aging.

Brow Lift

Meant to rejuvenate the upper third of the face, a brow lift can pair beautifully with blepharoplasty if you struggle with both heavy eyelids and heavy brows. This procedure removes excess skin and gently repositions sagging brows while also eliminating deep-set wrinkles and creases to help you look younger and more alert.
